I recently purchased both games from steam and installed them. However, I cannot seem to get past the launcher menus, as when I press play, the launcher disappears, and then reappears a few seconds later, with no game running as a result. I am running this on Windows 7 (64-bit) and have attempted to run both games via the compatibility software, along with changing the compatibility to Windows XP manually (as I saw suggested by people experiencing similar problems).
I have also attempted some fixes suggested by said people, none of which seemed to help. These include:-Re-install the game-Change compatibility (as previously stated)-verify the cache through the steam client-Running the games directly from the files (i.e. Directly run fallout.exe)None of these worked and I'm wondering what else to attempt.
I am currently re-installing Fallout 3 and have NV for experimentation. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem, and I am open to suggestions on how to fix this.(By the way I have not attempted to install any mods or alter the game files in any way). I have just the regular Fallout 3/NV games as opposed to the GOTY and Ultimate editions.
As such, I don't have the DLC or anything else that could screw up the load order. The data files portion of the launcher reiterates this, as the only thing displayed is Fallout.esm.Also, I tried some of the ways suggested by to bypass the default launcher, and it still ends up looping. My guess is that there is something wrong not with the launcher, but with the game files themselves. As such, I'll try reinstalling the games one more time to see if that fixes anything.Oh, and yes, I have tried the full reset.
